Distinctives

Christ Fellowship is an independent non-denominational church body. We are committed to the absolute authority of the scripture. We invite all who desire to grow in the knowledge and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ to join us in fellowship on a regular basis. Below are some distinctives which will give some insight into our positions. We are not suggesting that all churches operate this way, only that this is what we feel the Lord has called us to.

Worship Style

Christ Fellowship uses what would be considered both traditional (hymns) and contemporary (spiritual songs) worship styles. We feel that the theological truths expressed in the traditional hymns are of great value to the church today. At the same time we recognize that the contemporary songs of today offer a personal perspective and directness of our worship to the Lord. Realizing that some styles of worship can be a distraction to others, we encourage those attending Christ Fellowship to remember that our worship is to bring attention and glory to our Lord, and not to the individual doing the worship. Ephesians 5:19-20

Teaching/Preaching

The scriptures use of these terms suggests that teaching is for the believer, with preaching then directed toward the unbeliever. The ministry of the Word dictates then the primary purpose whether to the building up of the believer, or ministry to the unbeliever, or both.
At Christ Fellowship we believe that it is most important to teach consistently through the whole scripture and not to bring overemphasis to particular books, topics, or doctrines that have at times become the basis for division in the church. In doing this, we believe that the church body becomes established with a solid foundation in God’s Word. In this however, we do not eliminate topical teaching. Acts 2:42, Isaiah 28:9-14, 2 Timothy 4:2-3

Church Government

Jesus Christ is the head of the church. Therefore, all leaders of the church are subject to the authority of His word, the scriptures. Christ Fellowship operates under what we consider to be a New Testament model of church government. Multiple pastor/elders function on an equal basis in regards to church authority, with each focusing on ministering in areas where they are gifted. These pastor/elders look to God through the scripture and the ministry of the Holy Spirit in our lives to receive guidance and direction for the local body. The board of Deacons is a supportive board dealing not only with spiritual counsel but the physical aspects of the church as well. Eph. 5:23, 1 Timothy 3

Missions Outreach

As according to the great commission given by Jesus in Matthew 28, we believe that it is the duty of each person as part of the church to see the gospel of Christ spread first on a personal basis, in the local community, as well as to the ends of the earth. Christ Fellowship has been instrumental in leading and participating in short term missions, as well as sending those fulltime who have received the call of God on their lives. Christ Fellowship has and continues to be committed to give a substantial portion of receipts to local, national, and foreign mission work. It is our desire to see those discipled at Christ Fellowship respond to their personal call of God on their lives.
Matthew 28:19-20

Male Leadership

The biblical pattern of leadership in the home and marriage relationship centers on the male/husband position. Eph. 5:22-24, Col. 3:18, Titus 2:1-5 Just as Paul teaches male headship in the family, he teaches male headship in the local church. 1 Tim. 2:8 – 1 Tim 3:7 Specifically, the scripture prohibits women from doing two things, 1) teaching the men of the church, 2) exercising authority over the men. 1 Timothy 2:11-14
